The evergreen house – new dwellings built with hemp.
Hemp homes, here are the Greenhouses
In recent years Greenhouse, a startup company in Pisa, has spent its time specializing in the construction of hemp buildings.
This material has been forthcoming for quite some time, paving the way in the field of sustainable architecture. Greenhouse uses hemp to produce “biomattoni,” bricks made of a mixture of lime and hemp hurds, ensuring a high level of acoustic and thermal insulation in addition to absorbing excess carbon dioxide often present in building interiors. This mixture is also particularly fire resistant and, because it does not rot or mold, guarantees natural transpiration of the walls, keeping living spaces pure and clean. The building modules are entirely powered by photovoltaic energy.
Light but safe, towards eco-sustainability
The only restriction to this technique lies in the sizes in which it can be applied. Indeed the material, despite its remarkable advantages, can only withstand a limited load and hence can be used for small buildings no taller than two floors. In time, experts are studying new hemp mixtures in their quest to develop more resistant, environmentally sustainable materials without compromising the advantages hemp presents. A true revolution in green architecture.
